GENERAL INTRODUCTION

This paper carries out a study on themes and satirical aspects in Paula fox’s The Slave Dancer.

It discusses the controlling ideas of the novel and the ways Paula Fox addresses them to readers to criticize her society.

1. BACK GROUND TO THE STUDY

I have been motivated to work on themes and satire in Paula fox’s The Slave Dancer, by the fact that no work has ever been done on these two aspects in the novel. Thus it cannot be easily understood if ever the two aspects are still unrevealed from the novel. I was entirely interested in the two aspects thematic study and satire for to get the real message emerging in Paula fox’s narrative so any ready can understand it better.     

0.3   PROBLEM STATEMENT

Above all, the problem that I identify and I intend to solve by my research paper is that no research has ever been conducted concerning the novel, and few have thought of linking theme and satirical aspects. In this current paper, my study stands for revealing out   the major themes and satire that will be relevant to any reader for a better comprehension of Paula fox’s issues in The Slave Dancer, by liking  theme to satirical aspects.

0.4. OBJECTIVE

The main objective of which stands for this thesis is to reveal out themes and satire that Paula  fox addresses the reader to censure her socio-environment. Therefore my intention would be to help any reader to guess the main concerns of Paula fox’s the slave dancer through themes and satire that will be made up.

This paper intends to answer the following questions:

1. What is theme mean according to scholars and other researchers?
2. What is satire in literature?
3. What does satire aim at in The Slave Dancer?
4. What are the major themes expressed through The Slave Dancer?

1. HYPOTHESES

1. Actually, for most scholars and other researchers understand a theme as a main idea of a literary work which maybe stated directly or indirectly. A themes, is said to the central thought that is contained in the work of a writer.
2. In literature, satire is a literary work in which folly or evil in people’s behaviors are help up to ridicule by showing their faults and weakness.
3. Satire in The Slave Dance aims at criticizing societies or people using children in violent action and the consequence of this practice.
4. Paula fox has discussed several themes, but we tried to reveal out the major ones which are violence, oppression, disappointment, around which we developed minor themes in the following section of this paper.

1. 7 METHOLOGY

As far as methodology is concerned, I resorted to documentary methodology, by which I read closely the novel and consulting other sources related to the topic

I eventually resorted to textual approach that consisted of considering the novel as the only source of information.   I finally conducted my research paper by using sociological approach which looks at the work of art as revelation of ²the society from which it originates.

This research paper carries also psycho analytical approach that enables me to Penetrate what is going in characters’ minds, behavior, conduct, reaction and distress.  

0.8.   SCOPE OF THE STUDY

 This study of themes and satirical aspects is entirely limited to the analysis of themes and satire in Paula fox’s The Slave Dancer. This paper looks to know how Paula fox addresses her feelings to heir societies through her narrative.

0.9. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 My hope is that the current work will help other researchers and all its readers to understand themes and satire depicted in Paula fox’s narrative The Slave Dancer. It will even help the young and the coming generation to enable their literary analysis.

10. SUBDIVISION OF THE WORK

This paper in its whole development consists of three chapters, apart from the general introduction and general conclusion. The first chapter deals with the review of literature on thematic study   and satirical aspects. The second chapter consists of thematic study in Paula fox’s The Slave Dance. The third is concerned with the analysis of satirical aspects in the novel.
