AN ATTEMPT TO DESIGN AN ENGLISH COURSE FOR MEDICAL DOCTORS AND NURSES

Publication : 19 Novembre 2017
For many years, the English language is taught for various reasons in different professional fields. This kind of English is different from the general English as it simply focuses on the language skills required in their professional areas. In order to match the language needs of these adult learners, a relevant ESP course needs to be designed. The design of this kind of course causes sometimes problems to some English teachers given that the content of the said course may or not be relevant to the assigned objectives. Most of the time medical doctors and nurses come across some medical instruments and catalogues written in English and they are unable to understand them even if they are already aware of the English language. Other times, they may come across other medical doctors coming from English speaking countries and while working they are not able to communicate effectively with these doctors. All these problems bring in the need to design an English course related their needs. My task consists of designing an English course for medical doctors which is likely to meet the needs of medical doctors.
